I don't play baby games.
An empty Tim Hortons cup sits on my desk, to the left of my computer and to the Southeast of my phone. This is a cue for me to make a tea. I enjoy a good Earl Grey tea these days. I also enjoy 'paying back' my sleep debt.
One day Miklos is going to pay back his sleep debt too, but his case will be much more Van Winkle than mine (minus all the tragedy). When he awakes, there will be mugs and mugs of coffee all around him because I was prepared for him to wake up one day. The room will also be fully renovated to adapt to the era we then find ourselves in. I'd wake up to that! Sleep for 20 years, then new decor and a shitload of old undrinkable coffee to greet him as he rubs the sleep-grit out of his eyes. Hell, I'll even make some muffins, if the eggs in the fridge aren't then as expired as the ones that currently sit in it.

Electric Feel
Why do I not like sleep at night, but I love it so come morning? I'm tired as all shit, but I just won't go down. Why don't I think this much during the daytime? It certainly would help a lot of things.
This is a good'un (I didn't pay attention to the video, I'll be honest). It was track #11 on 'Economics is a Drag' Mix '08 as compiled by Ellie. That girl was fun.

American Idol auditions are back, yesssss!
Listen, I don't want to bore you with stories like this... but this is one for the memories. Ignore it if you are anyone other than me reading.
Situation: I'm lying in bed, doing math in my head for some reason. I'm on the threshold of sleep when I hear a sudden frantic scrambling; a clink of my potted plant possibly being knocked down onto my bed; a quick, sharp and terrified meow; then finally a thump on my mattress, where my cat lands in a canopy that's formed near the bottom of my long brown curtains. Rico lies there in that canopy, perfectly still and quiet. So, a tiny bit concerned, as well as freaked out, I pull him out of the curtain-hammock he's fallen into. His response is to stand stiffly on my bed, reflecting upon life for a minute, unmoving. I watch, curiously, awaiting his next move. Then, as if nothing ever happened, he hops off the bed and coughs up a ribbon-wound hairball presumably after I fall asleep, as I find it the next morning and am actually rather impressed by his talent.
I mean, the ribbons were even complementary colours, and the bow was excellently formed around the mound of hair he coughed up. Yep. That's called a day off.

There's no day like a snow day
Due to "treacherous" driving conditions today, I decided to stay home. One of two of my classes was cancelled because the prof didn't want us to die on our way in, so I figured that was enough. I mean, added to the fact that I didn't really feel like going in the first place. Ah, sweet apathy.
The day off was even more a blessing because it means 1) my first day of school isn't until the Thursday of the first week back, and 2) I got to hammer out a cover letter and resume that I was too lazy to do last night and send it off by the deadline.
Safe.
And then I napped for a bunch of hours. It's really been a great day in the life of me, now that I think of it. A waste of finishing powder, as Ellie declared us both earlier today, but a great day none the less.

Everybody Works
This is such a shitty part of town. Far from the shittiest, but fraught with midnight (or 3am, as it were) punks who talk loudly all night either from street level or up on their balconies. I don't find it irritating as much as kind of amusing. There are people up as late as me. We're all on garbagey schedules that wreck up our biological clocks, a-together. Except that many of them probably don't work at all. In which case, their biological clock is their own fault.
I suppose I could start waking up at 7 or 8am like a normal person, but what is the point? To watch The View? All I would do, if I got up earlier, is watch television or maybe finish reading my book a little sooner. And I would certainly nap before my shift began.
[By the way, I work 7 days a week for almost no paycheck. I have joined the masses. Drone City. Population: You and me.]
I'm breaking all the rules. I'm pulling out all the stops. I'm batting down the hatches. I'm crack-crack-crackin' the egg into the bowl. I'm exhausted. Why does my boss think I want to work every day of my life? I am not as in love with retail as she is. I do not come to work with a snotty nose and a falling apart immune system because I adore my job. In fact, the John Tesh radio show advised me the other night to quit my job because I am just "spinning my wheels" if the thought of going to work does not "excite" me. Does work actually excite some people? Is that possible? I mean, people with real jobs, who aren't qualified for great jobs like working at Google, or who are good enough at music to get drunk every night and play music for money. Are there any exciting jobs for average Joes?
I'm an above-average Joe working in a sub-average Joe's job. But my friends, being smart isn't getting you anywhere in this world if you don't want to man an oil rig or wear a headset in a world-class call centre or go through 8 years of post-secondary to eventually decide you don't want to be what you thought you did in the first place. I'm not even sure what I'm saying anymore. It's 3am and I haven't had a day off where I wasn't sick in a long, long time.
And that's the tooth.

Plans and Sleep
You ever look at a play-on-words so many times that the real word looks downright out of place the next time you see it? (Probably not.) Tonight, reading Vonnegut's introduction to Bagombo Snuff Box, I came across the word "comatose". Just looks weird to me now.
The drive-in is fun. It is one of few situations where a station wagon dominates a much sexier car. Any car you can lie down in the back of on a pile of blankets and pillows to watch three movies with the hatch left up (provided there is perfect weather, as there was last night) gets my vote. The drive-in does have its many limitations, but it is nearly always a very good time, except if you have to go to the bathroom.
Missed a day of fun today because the movies ran very late and I was tired and out of my head and remain so to this moment. Not tired enough to sleep, however, as I napped for a good length of time today.
Go read a book. There's nothing productive here.

Oh, hey.
By the way, I went up north for a week.
Andrew and I went to African Lion Safari the day before the holiday week started, and we got so many cool pictures that I don't know where to start with uploading them. I saw a million bears on my vacation. Zero bears, my ass. I want to live up north. Except that there is a distinct and utterly wrong absence of sushi in the wilderness. I do not support that.
I will update again shortly, but I think I am facing the driver's equivalent of jet-lag for another day or so.

I'm on my D-Game lately. Last night, instead of partaking in fun, I opted to sleep for 10 hours before getting up for work. Glad I did. I haven't felt so refreshed in months. In fact, I could go for a good nap right now, had I not thrown my sheets in the warsh 20 minutes ago.
Here's some good news for a change.
