Sad Panda

I'm really not okay with this.

Endangered Bengal tigers among those killed after escaping from Ohio zoo

I understand, yes, the police were not trained to deal with the tigers any other way.  Surely though, there were people who were. Animal control, or, failing that, someone with more wild life expertise that the animal control people could've called.  I realize it was a critical situation.  It just seems sad and stupid and wrong for them not to have even tried to do anything other than shoot to kill.  Not to say I expect more or less from people today, but I really think this could have been handled differently, especially when 18 animals killed were part of an endangered species of about 1400 known.

But hey, as long as the human population is thriving and we're letting awful, awful people have babies without a permit.  Permits!  C'mon!  I've even coined a slogan.  "Permits: Hey, They're Better Than Genocide!" Consider it.

Sometimes I am nice.

Help Animals and Pet Shelters with a free click!

Even though I'm an a-hole, I always make sure to help our loyal friends-without-speech. Other good sites are FreeKibble / FreeKibbleKat to feed shelter pets through daily trivia.

Because you like animals better than people...

queen victoria

Freekibble.com

Every day, go to each of the above sites and answer a trivia question. Whether you're right or wrong, the site will donate 10 pieces of kibble to hungry animals, and you get to feel really good (or really horrible) about how much you (might not) know. They feed millions of dogs and cats while you answer a daily question and move on with your activities. It's awesome!

Another great site that feeds hungry animals is The Animal Rescue Site. If you also care about hungry kids, literacy, breast cancer, the rainforest, and child health care, you can navigate around that site and click the big buttons to give for free too. These ones let you click more than once a day. It's a pretty good deal, since you don't really have to do anything extraordinary, but you're helping the ones who need it.

we are family

We went to the monkey/lion/three-legged jaguar place (no one cares about the parrots) yesterday. We saw no animals, but we did see a big forest with thin wire fencing around it and a bunch of signs basically telling us to go away. Amazing! Finally, this place is picking up a little.

Mixi woke me up to cuddle at 9 this morning. She's getting fatter by the day, but no less bitchy. I like her.

My diet lately consists of coffee and peanut butter cups.

Bob Barker looks like hell

And he belongs to PETA, so there's that too. [Article and muppetty photo here]

Almost as creepy: The amount of spiders around lately.

Cat Lady Rambles #184

I've never really thought of Rico as 'big'. Once, Francis came over to try and sell me life insurance (or something scammy) and the only part of that visit I remember was him saying "WHOA, that is a big cat." I've seen bigger.

But Jane is a featherweight, and Mix is miniature. She'll probably grow to be bigger than Rico, but right now, she's tiny. And as Rico sat on my slouchy lap just now, I realized, he is not only gigantic, but also getting really heavy. He used to be so light. That's what switching from $34- to $17-bags of cat food will do to an animal I guess. And soon I'm switching to Ruffins' own blend at an incredible $10 a bag, so what will happen then?

PS, if you have pets, check out the Ruffins in your area, if there is one. Ours has food that is literally $8 cheaper for the same name brand bag they have at stores like Petcetera or Pet Valu, and the service seems friendlier too.

Meh, gotta nuke something.

dog day afternoons

I smell food and now I'm hungry. I have so much reviewing to do tonight, as well as a presentation to memorize, which just isn't going to happen, really. Worked and reviewed all weekend. Oh well! I never wanted a life anyway.

Oh, and I think my dad finally believes me that the car needs serious help. It may have stalled on him 80 times in the process of him driving it to their place to get it looked at tomorrow. I'll have to ask. :( Thank heaven for roadside assistance!

Also: I just saw a rat in the parking garage. Which really isn't gross, unless you think of the implications of that.

Foxy Brown

I keep seeing my fox, running around in that field on that same road. I love that little guy (or girl). By "keep" I mean that I've now seen him (/her) twice on drives with Miki. I want to hug that fox. This time I noticed his (/her) eyes glowing in the pitch black from god knows how far away. So far away, that Miklos did not believe me at first. But then I proved, as I am wont to do, that I am the coolest with the best vision yet again, when he finally realized I was right and there was a fox behind us in that field again. I rule. So does that fox.

I want a pet fox.

Oh, and good results for the first test of the year.

Bad results for my car. Not that it's been diagnosed professionally yet (if ever), but she is not looking too good. I miss you, car.

I'm not good enough at lying, so this is serious

skeleton band

Around 2004, while I was living in Welland, a group of us were racing down a side street (running). I wasn't fond of the idea, but everyone was trying to get into shape and I was just sort of there. Anyhow, I fell behind and decided to just walk to the end of the road, which ran parallel to some train tracks. There was an alleyway (if you can call it that) between two houses that took you from the street to the railroad tracks, and a path that went beyond that. Lying rather calmly on the ground in that "alleyway", about 100 feet away from me, was this enormous black cat.

I am retarded, so I considered walking up to reach out and touch what I was seeing because it was so unreal, but I shook the idea out of my head and continued to walk to catch up to the others, staring at it all the while. When I finally caught up, they said "Oh yeah?" because apparently a giant cat roaming the city is not something to be concerned about.

I had never heard of it beforehand. After I told a couple people, I heard that there had been sightings for a couple of years.

Then I saw an article in the paper today. This is it. (Also, the picture printed in the paper shows the actual picture, which is without a doubt a wild cat of some type; black, as I described. Way to make it look like Area 51 in this picture, internet site.)

I'm not crazy!

H-ape-piness

I'm only posting because I love this photo. That's awesome. I hope there are actually a billion gorillas hidden somewhere. I'd like to hug them, provided they didn't kill me.

Oh, hey.

deborah the zeborah

By the way, I went up north for a week.

Andrew and I went to African Lion Safari the day before the holiday week started, and we got so many cool pictures that I don't know where to start with uploading them. I saw a million bears on my vacation. Zero bears, my ass. I want to live up north. Except that there is a distinct and utterly wrong absence of sushi in the wilderness. I do not support that.

I will update again shortly, but I think I am facing the driver's equivalent of jet-lag for another day or so.

Ooo, now e's breakin' 'n ent'rin' as well!! Fascist!

  1. Returned all the clothes I bought last week, save for the two I was unsure of at first, which ended up being my favourites.
  2. Bought little black dress to replace them, as well as pashmina and necklace.
  3. Did laundry.
  4. Got rained on in St. Catharines, as per the daily agenda.
I'm not doing my hair anymore, and I'm barely attempting makeup. F that. It's summer. This is supposed to be my vacation. Speaking of, I think I'm giving up on the whole co-op idea soon. Sent an email telling the programs coordinator (again) that I think it's useless to have such a program in an area where there are little to no job opportunities. Cool. So I'm going to maybe start having a good time soon.

Also, I want a shih-poo, but no one abandons them, so I might have to break my "only adopt animals from the Humane Society" rule if I want to get one.

Taking a break from the 3 projects I have on the go to say...

Hey, look! I'm famous on a website that no one knows of yet! A month ago, I received an email telling me I'd been shortlisted, and today my photo (which I never submitted, but which was found on my Flickr) was picked to represent Niagara Falls. Weird!

I got some amazing photos this weekend, including some amazing pictures of some deer about a kilometer from the highway I was on. My zoom is amazing!!! I'll upload them one day when I get some time again.

Godspeed.
