Sad Panda

I'm really not okay with this.

Endangered Bengal tigers among those killed after escaping from Ohio zoo

I understand, yes, the police were not trained to deal with the tigers any other way.  Surely though, there were people who were. Animal control, or, failing that, someone with more wild life expertise that the animal control people could've called.  I realize it was a critical situation.  It just seems sad and stupid and wrong for them not to have even tried to do anything other than shoot to kill.  Not to say I expect more or less from people today, but I really think this could have been handled differently, especially when 18 animals killed were part of an endangered species of about 1400 known.

But hey, as long as the human population is thriving and we're letting awful, awful people have babies without a permit.  Permits!  C'mon!  I've even coined a slogan.  "Permits: Hey, They're Better Than Genocide!" Consider it.

Looks like those clowns in Congress did it again.

Here is a good example of when Microsoft should have just said "We were trying to complicate things further."

What a bunch of clowns.

Floods in Hungary

Maybe less impressive if you have never been there, but since we got to explore Hungary just under two months ago in near perfect weather, I am really sad to see the amount of flooding that's happened:

  • Szentendre, where we saw this adorable dog; the water along the river was a lot lower when we were there.
  • We got lost in this part of north-eastern Hungary because a road was closed and a bridge was flooded out at the time. We really should have gotten pictures, because it was the only flooding we saw. Now, the flood has reached their windows.
  • Budapest. From the other side of the river, you can see the Chain Bridge which is mostly in the back left of the flood picture, in my picture here, before this part of Budapest was flooded. Another shot here (not mine) is of the Parliament buildings from the Buda side, now flooded.
  • More flooding in Hungary
Peter, who was nice enough to let us stay at his place and who paid for too many of our meals and activities, has said it's been raining for a month straight. This is sad news, because it is such a beautiful and interesting place.

How to Have a Shitty Day

  1. Get up at 7:44am on a Saturday morning.
  2. Go to the market and have a shitty coffee that tastes so bad you can't even finish it.
  3. Get pressured by some Luigi-looking guy with purposely-curled moustache to eat sausage when you already had a danish and cereal, and you really don't like eating disgusting meat early in the morning because it sets your stomach off, not to mention you already had that awful coffee.
  4. Get made fun of by the Luigi-looking guy who pressures you to eat sausage because you don't feel like shitting your pants by 9am.
  5. Go home, get ready for working all Saturday long.
  6. Realize you spent your last dollar on that shitty coffee so that you can't get a real one on the way in to work.
  7. Drive to work through the 90km/hr winds on the highway in a tiny car that feels like it's blowing away.
  8. Make a stop at the bank to get money for Timmies [this will be the only good part of your day; I almost left it out, but then you'd wonder where I got the coffee later on].
  9. Work the Saturday before Mother's Day, when everyone who forgot their sense of humour at home is scrambling for cards so they don't look like bad sons and daughters like they do for 90% of the rest of the year.
  10. Get told off by that old douchebag customer who thinks he's funny but actually he's just a lonely bag of shit who has nothing better to do than pick on everyone he sees, for 'being rude' by drinking a sip of coffee when he was at least 30 feet away from the register, right as he (actually, quite rudely) butts in line in front of someone who politely allows it to happen.
  11. Work under the impression that you're in until 6, when you were actually scheduled until 5. Find out at 5:39.
  12. Drive back home through the 90km/hr winds on the highway in a tiny car that feels like it's blowing away.
  13. Get your shoulder ass-humped by your boyfriend's female cat who is in heat while you take a ten minute nap.
  14. Don't end up having any fun with your friends the night you planned to go out with for a birthday, because you have to work the next day again and fun would just screw up the grand scheme of things.
Voila!

I just saw an accident on the 406. Well, I saw the aftermath, and it gave me a giant headache because of my road paranoia and the fact that this happened about a minute ahead of where I was. I've never seen that highway come to a screeching halt; it took me completely by surprise when I had to brake hard and slow right down to 0. I won't describe the accident scene here. I hope the person was all right.

Have you got my back on Christmas Day?

ornamental

My Tic-Tac addiction was short-lived. If ever you find yourself in said situation, all you need to do is overdose. Where I work, we were selling these bonus packs of Tic-Tacs. So, of course, I bought one because it was an incredible deal. I proceeded to feed my addiction all in one night. I think I completed two of the five packs of them. Well, two and a half. Half of one pack is on my desk; wishing, waiting. I'm not sure if it was the excess of mintiness or the thought of "yeah there's barely any calories in them... if you only eat ONE", but something flipped the switch and now I can't even look at them without feeling slightly nauseous.

And so be it. I needn't any more vices. I've already got 'Spending Too Much Money' and 'Spending Too Much Money on Books I'll Never End Up Reading' and, well, those are just about enough. Tic-Tacs, if they became habitual, would be a definite drain on my change purse. And I just got a new change purse. So I wouldn't want to drain it, especially not of that Good Luck Penny Andrew's mom put in it.

Is it obvious I'm reading a Nick Hornby book? Not obvious enough yet. Give it another week.

I can get behind:
  • Corner Gas

  • having my student debt reduced; hey hey hey!
  • FudgeeOs
  • wearing jackets again
  • being done the last essay of my boring Labour Relations class
