Fish n Chips n Vinegar... Pepper Pepper Pepper, Salt.

mixi on blue

I got this book for about $10 the other day at Coles. I realize I'm becoming the two-jobbed housewife, but what a great resource! There are like a bazillion tips on ways to use salt, vinegar, lemons, and baking soda for just about everything around the house; things you'd expect, and also neat tricks like making a pet behaviour-modifying spray out of one part vinegar and one part water. So far, so good.

Another thing I picked up was a travel journal. I can't wait to start filling it out. Six days til my first trip overseas. Eat shit, Quebec!

Addendum: I was wondering about this tonight, here's my answer.

That Tears It.

weird hairy thing

I'm buying all my toiletries from Walmart from now on. Now, don't get me wrong. I hate Walmart just as much as the next person, but I sure don't hate how they're $4 less for a large jug of shampoo than it costs to buy a much smaller bottle at the store I work for. Even at discount, I get nothing like that. Points? Who gives a shit? I'd rather have money in my pocket, not points I'm always hesitant to spend.

Dear John was a really good book. Proven dead wrong to not expect much from it, I was sad when it was finished. Maybe it's because all the books I tend to read are filled with eccentric characters. Sometimes, there are 'normal' people, and, sometimes, they have stories too. That's what this taught me. That said, I won't be sad to read another zany story. I like me a crazy character here or there or everywhere. This one reached into my chest and massaged my heart (non-sexually) to remind me (not that I need reminding) that life is very, very good right now; it also seemed to scream at me, "Don't screw it up!" You should read it, if you're at a loss for something to fall into this spring.

I'm so far surpassing my quiet goal of reading a novel per month this year. I know that's not a lot, but when I clean my house and I cook and I work several jobs and I go for drives with a certain boy 70 times a week, reading a book is a great accomplishment. So far I'm at 3... or 4. One of them was a book of short stories, and although I'm not really counting it, I really felt you should know.

Scissor-Gripped

5/365 Mixi in Red

These days, I feel like Johnny Depp is only doing Tim Burton movies out of politeness.

Speaking of movies, I'm off to see the crazily-hyped Avatar tonight with Miklos. My boss's treat. That's the best kind. I hear Avatar is the best movie I've never seen and that it will blow me away, especially in 3D. Dear heavens.

I'm reading A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon and I am in love with it so far. So many of the characters remind me of people I know, and I'm only six (6) chapters in.

Okay, moments later, maybe I'm not going to see Avatar. Some number movie instead. Well, I guess we'll sort that all out before showtime begins. Until next time. Godspeed.

A funny thing happened on the way to the crazy house...

Dan has returned. I like when he blogs and you should too, because he is a real laugh riot. No, I mean that. Go read it or I stab you.

ballpark figure

Man, I've got nothing to say to this blog lately. Except that things are falling into place and school's almost done. Can't wait.

I'm reading Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs on the suggestion of someone I go to school with, which is amazing, because who knew business students could read, let alone read what turn out to be cool books in their spare time? And who knew from the beginning of that sentence that by the end it would be a question? Not me. Sometimes things in life just turn out that way.

Like, who knew I'd go to bed at 11:30 for the first time in months last night and actually get some sleep for once, and it still wouldn't amount to enough, because life is tough that way?

And who knew I'd find myself in such a nice frame of mind, all while being altogether poor and useless? Money would be wonderful right now, but it wouldn't feel like this. (It'd still feel damn good though. Give. Me. The lottery.)

It's a small, small place, and things are always interesting. The photographer my friend works for is doing my cousin's new baby photos, as it happens. Every time I go to Welland I see at least 3 people I'm familiar with in some way. And most importantly, Twitter is everywhere now. Weird, weird world.

Better things coming soon.

Prevention is key.

Best review I've read in a while.
