I think I'm done.

It's too hot for Coolio out there. Sunblock and sun-avoidance are your BFFs.

Puppies, dressed as cats.

what could it be?

Blaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh it's Christmas in March. Or September or something. The weather is seriously weird this year. No summer, no winter. Just boring.

The nice thing is I got a pretty ring from the boy I care about. What a nutcase. He rules.

Adventures

depth of ... forest

Last night we (forgot our cameras, ugh!) and drove head-on into the enormous storm that hit Niagara. The humidex during the day had been around 41 as predicted, and whatever collided with that muggy air did not impress it. At first, it was a brilliant light show over Lake Ontario. Next thing we knew, that lightning, thunder, and now pools of rain were right on top of us as we parked in Niagara-on-the-Lake to watch it. I don't think I've been in all truth scared of something in a long time, but when lightning whited out my peripheral vision and Miklos said "Did you see that?! It touched down like 20 feet away from the car," I was all too happy to suggest we get the hell out of there.

Back at home, Lauren texted me and told me that the strong winds coming through our open window had blown everything off our dining room table. After driving blindly through a lot of the rain with the car's wipers on full-speed, we let the remainder of the storm die down at one of the canal locks. Spectacular night viewing courtesy of crotchety old Mother Nature.

A Cigarette in Bed; or a Cookie, for Non-Smokers

It was a very gloom-and-doom weekend at the island, at least as much as an island on the border of Ontario and Quebec can be gloom-doomy. Allow me for a moment to be more specific: The sky spent a lot of time pissing down rain.

One bad omen was a horrible accident that had happened on the 400S the morning we departed for the island; a tractor trailer and a small car collided, spilling 400 litres of diesel on the highway and killing at least one person. The cars on the highway crept along for four kilometres, which took approximately one hour and forty-five minutes to clear. People were getting out of their cars, walking up and down the highway. Cars took a half hour to catch up with some of the walking temporary non-passengers. It was a sad sight when we finally could see it. By that time, there was no longer a 'teetering' tractor trailer balanced on the center guardrail as the traffic reports had suggested. Just a kind of banged up looking transport truck, a severely messed up guardrail, and a burned-out shell of a Mazda which had been cut apart to pull someone out. Horrifying.

After what became a staggering nine-hour drive, we arrived at Tee Lake. By this point I had re-read about a quarter of Timequake and remembered for about the fiftieth time why I have this affinity for the late Kurt Vonnegut's twisted cynicism. And yes, the piss-rain. We braved the weather, though. The lot of us:

  • Took a billion pictures of frogs (even at one point seeing one frog eat another... wtf)
  • Saw the incredible mountains and lakes from a lookout point in Ville-Marie and on the drive to it
  • Drove all the way to Algonquin and saw some beautiful scenery but no moose (good thing Miklos loves to drive so!)
  • Light-painted to our hearts' content on the dock by night after the lake had further filled itself with almost a foot of the previous night's precipitation.
It was only on the last night that my body was eaten to bits by vicious Quebecois mosquitoes. Fine holiday fun, regardless of dreary weather. And after a giant drive home, we've got two more days before we head up to my family's cottage, which I've not seen in a year. I'm excited. Hopefully less rain, yes?

Can't wait.

You know what's coming soon? Some nice sleeping with the rain pouring and my window open so I can hear it all. Ooooh baby. Yeah. It's been a while. What a perfect sound for morning time in bed.

low flying aircraft

So. I'm doing a review for a test I have tomorrow and I've hit a roadblock.

Oh, ok, I found it now. This might as well have been Twittered, for all anyone will care. Hey, I took a bunch of pictures this weekend, many of which I haven't uploaded yet... but also, many of which I have. Go look if you're bored (be sure to click page 2 as well).

[Aside: When Flickr people add me who have displayed photos they took of the corpse of someone they once knew, that's when I get the shivers. I will not link this person. I just felt it important to note.]

Hey. It was a very pretty day out today. I hope you got out and enjoyed it like I did for a couple of hours. Spring, please come back soon!

Hi, Life.

painted trees

There's a dull scent of smoke on a sweater I don't wear very often. I'm not sure, but this and/or the weather could be why I feel a touch miserable today. I sure could go for an evening of sleeping in the fetal position. Instead, work!! :D

Now. I like rain, in the summer. Does anyone here like rain, wind, cold, and misery in the winter??

smirnoff ice indeed.

It's going to rain every day from now to eternity. Possibly after, as well. Better have the dog fetch you your galoshes. And none of those chincy crocs, neither.

Anybody else worried about the sudden onslaught of bloated feet washing ashore in BC? Or merely a little perplexed? I'm both, personally.

Summer good for something, and summer good for nothing.

broke-down barn

Andrew is officially a Master of Biotechnology. Congratulations to him! Someone who actually knows what they want to do in life is rare. I hope to one day be that sort of person. For now though, onward with the monotony of self-analysis.

Good things:
  1. Had the opportunity to take some great shots while in Toronto over the weekend. Bought a steadier tripod and I love it.
  2. There has been an abundance of thunderstorms in the past week or so. Incredible!
  3. Ice water. I'm not sure how Andrew lives without ice (except maybe in a fool's paradise), but I cannot feel hydrated in the summer days without a nice tall glass of refreshing, freezing cold water. Bottled water does not suffice! So coming home was at least good for that.
  4. Chocolate milk.
  5. Juice.
  6. Finding more useless crap to do on the internet.

che guevara's truck

Oh hey, so it's really fucking humid out. And we found G.I. Joe's truck in the woods.
