Personal Memo

nana on a four-wheeler

Although seemingly impossible, I heard "Magic Man" by Heart for the first time in probably 10 years on TWO separate radio stations at different times last night. I also heard "Roxanne" by the Police. Songs with those kind of falsettos are perfect for driving alone.

Well, I guess 2008's over as of tonight at midnight, so here's a list of things I liked from the past year:

  • Sam. Coolest girl ever.
  • Watching my niece grow so much in her first year
  • Getting so genuinely interested in politics for the first time, even if every single Canadian candidate is a horrible hack.
  • OBAMA. I will probably never again be so moved by a new president's acceptance speech
  • Matthew Good: Live at Massey Hall
  • A few songs off the new Eagles of Death Metal album
  • Seeing a flying hawk with a snake dangling from its beak up north
  • Seeing bears up north, and that tree full of vultures that was near them
  • Being up north in general
  • Seeing moose at Algonquin
  • Andrew getting his kayak
  • Not being at school for eight months
  • Building on the friendships I have with people at work
  • Spending time with new friends and old friends again
  • Finding the perfect pair of winter boots for cheap in Toronto of all places
  • Getting my new camera, which has furthered my obsession with taking pictures... I want an even newer camera already!
  • Another year of Rico being my best model
  • Having a car (albeit a scary one to drive in)
  • Miklos's dad fixing the heat in said car! Best, ever!
  • African Lion Safari
  • The Dark Knight
  • Iron Man
  • "Yer a hell of a package, Kid." Crazy Joe and his close-talking ways.
  • The new apartment. What a great place, and what great roommates!
  • Christmas. Possibly the best ever. Catopoly for the win!
  • Having bangs for the first time since I was eight
  • The (eventual) recession. Gas prices are so beautifully low.
  • Of course, all the Sarah Palin moments
  • And much, much more
This actually was a pretty good year, if you look at it as just that, (12 months in time wherein a bunch of different things happen) which I usually don't. Time usually kind of just blurs together for me. 2009 is sure to be a pivotal time in my life. Finishing up with college, possibly starting a new program in the fall, maybe even getting a good job at last!

And of course, it wouldn't be a New Year's Eve without the cliche resolution to work out more. So there, I said it, and that is that.

Happy New Year to you and your family!
